Zimbabwe Reports 1,725 Malaria Cases and 4 Deaths in One Week

FOUR people died from malaria during the week ending January 4, 2026 as the nation recorded 1,725 new cases, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has revealed. In its Weekly Disease Surveillance Report, the ministry said the deaths were reported from Mount Darwin District in Mashonaland Central Province, Makonde District in Mashonaland West Province, Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and Chitungwiza Central Hospital in Harare Metropolitan Province. The report shows that children under the age of five accounted for 191 cases, representing 11.1 percent of the total infections recorded during the week under review. “The ministry of health and child care weekly Disease Surveillance Report for the week ending 04 January 2026, 1 725 malaria cases and four (4) deaths were reported this week. “The deaths were reported from Mount Darwin District (1) in Mashonaland Central Province, Makonde District (1) in Mashonaland West Province, Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals (1) and Chitungwiza Central Hospital (1) in Harare Metropolitan Province. “Of the reported cases, 191 (11.1%) were from under five years of age. “The provinces that reported the highest number of cases were Mashonaland Central (630) and Manicaland (456). The cumulative figures for malaria cases are 1 725 and 4 deaths,” the report reads. Malaria cases typically rise during the rainy season due to increased mosquito breeding.
