Winter Storm Warnings Issued for 3 Michigan Counties Amid Heavy Snowfall

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Wednesday’s incoming snow is not going to hit the same for all areas of the Lower Peninsula. Some counties are expected to get walloped, with up to a foot of snow accumulating by Thursday. This heavy snow is expected to make travel dangerous in some areas during the Wednesday morning commute. So far, the National Weather Service has placed Oceana, Muskegon and Ottawa counties under a Winter Storm Warning that goes into effect at midnight tonight and lasts through 10 a.m. Wednesday. Heavy snow is expected. Most areas in that three-county range will see between 3-8 inches of snow. But some areas will see anywhere from 9 to 12 inches. “Visibility and road conditions may change rapidly over short distances in lake effect snow,” the NWS team in Grand Rapids said. “Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact the Wednesday morning commute. “If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility, and road conditions.” The map below shows the current NWS Winter Storm Warning areas in pink. The Winter Weather Advisory areas are shown in purple. This covers much of the Lower Peninsula and part of the U.P. An Extreme Cold advisory area is shown in bright blue, but that advisory does not begin until Thursday, before the incoming Arctic cold air.
