Man Receives Life Sentence for Murdering Estranged Wife

A man who admitted that he murdered his estranged wife in a knife attack in Windhoek about two years ago has been sentenced to life imprisonment. Acting judge Marilize du Plessis sentenced Marlo McNab in the High Court at Windhoek Correctional Facility on Monday. McNab (39) admitted guilt on a charge of housebreaking with intent to murder and murder in November last year. He admitted that he killed his estranged wife, Helen Onesimus (43), at her home in the Rocky Crest area of Windhoek on 16 February 2024. Onesimus was stabbed 27 times with knives and a pair of scissors. McNab had been notified that Onesimus had instituted divorce proceedings against him two days before he carried out the fatal attack on her. McNab also tried to take his own life after the attack on Onesimus, but did not succeed. The epidemic proportions of gender-based violence in Namibia cannot be ignored by the court, Du Plessis remarked before sentencing McNab to life imprisonment.
