Foreign Nationals: Visa Amnesty Period Extended to January 20

The amnesty period for foreign nationals who have overstayed their immigration permits has been extended to 20 January. The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security announced on Saturday that the amnesty, expected to end on 16 January, would be extended. This allows individuals to leave the country without risking penalties. “All concerned individuals are strongly encouraged to make use of the extended amnesty period to report themselves to the nearest immigration office or border post,” ministry executive director Nghidinua Daniel said. The amnesty applies to individuals who have overstayed their visas as well as those who have been living in Namibia without appropriate visas. Once individuals report themselves to immigration offices, they will have five days to leave the country, facilitated by immigration officials. They will not face legal penalties or administrative sanctions if they come forward before the deadline. “No further extensions will be granted, and failure to comply within the current amnesty period will result in law enforcement action,” Daniel said. The costs for leaving Namibia will not be covered by the Namibian government.
