Katikkiro Urges Parents to Educate Girls in Tribute to Minister Bitamazire

The Katikkiro of Buganda Peter Mayiga has paid glowing tribute to the late Minister Geraldine Namirembe Bitamazire, describing her as a selfless, principled leader whose life and service should inspire both parents and politicians across the country. While conveying his condolences to the bereaved family during a requiem Mass held at the deceased's home in Kansanga, the Katikkiro sympathized with the relatives and the nation at large for the loss of a woman he said had been of immense value to Uganda, particularly in the field of education. In his address, the Katikkiro appealed to parents to prioritize the education of girls, noting that Hon. Bitamazire's achievements were largely a result of her parents' decision to support her education without limitation. He emphasized that they did not hold her back because of her gender, a decision he said enabled her to grow into a responsible, productive, and patriotic citizen. Bitamazire into a distinguished and exemplary member of society, whose contribution to public service and education will remain etched in the nation's history. Turning to her political legacy, the Katikkiro praised Bitamazire for exemplifying integrity, humility, and selflessness in leadership. He said she portrayed the image of a principled politician who put service above personal gain, urging today's leaders to learn from her example and recommit themselves to serving the people with honesty and dedication. The Mass was led by Fr. John Bosco Sserumaga, the Director of Radio Maria, who encouraged mourners to remain steadfast and not lose heart despite the pain of loss. He reminded the congregation that life on earth is a continuous struggle and that faith provides strength during difficult times. Fr. Sserumaga commended Bitamazire's humility, noting that despite holding high-ranking positions, she never allowed her status to define or elevate her above others.
