TikTok Creator Remanded in Custody Over Viral Assault and Sextortion Claims

A court on Friday remanded a TikTok content creator, Christford Affadu Danful, also known as “Ekow Black”, into police custody over a viral assault case and fresh allegations of sextortion, police said. Danful appeared before the Adabraka District Court in Accra, which ordered that he be held pending further investigations and reappear on 21 January, according to a statement posted by the Ghana Police Service on its official Facebook page. The court, presided over by Nana Abena Asoh Owusu Omenyo, granted the remand to allow police to continue investigations into an assault incident that circulated widely on social media, as well as additional complaints involving alleged threats to release intimate images. Police said the new allegations are consistent with sextortion, a crime involving the use of explicit material to coerce or blackmail victims. Police said investigations are ongoing. No plea was taken during Friday’s court appearance.
