Damon-Affleck's 'The Rip' Becomes Netflix's Latest Blockbuster Hit

Joe Carnahan’s action thriller “The Rip” has become Netflix’s biggest movie hit in months. The Ben Affleck and Matt Damon-led title scored mixed reviews but reportedly racked up 41.6 million views in the first three days on the platform. That’s the ninth-largest film debut in Netflix history, and the biggest movie debut since last summer’s “Happy Gilmore 2,” which pulled in 46.7 million in its first three days and was the third-largest Netflix debut ever. With the exception of “Red Notice” at 75.6 million views, Netflix’s biggest film debuts tend to be in the 41-46 million range. “The Rip” came very close to the likes of the Julia Roberts-led “Leave the World Behind” at 41.7 million, the Taron Egerton-led “Carry-On” at 42 million and the Chris Hemsworth-led “Extraction 2” at 42.8 million. Understandably, the film also shot to the top spot among all Netflix titles for the week of January 12th-19th. “The Rip” sees a team of Miami cops discover millions in cash in a derelict stash house. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question – including who they can rely on.
