Tata Motors Unveils 17 Next-Gen Trucks, Boosting Electric & Safety Features

Tata Motors has unveiled a new portfolio of 17 next-generation trucks in India, spanning payloads from 7 to 55 tonnes, marking one of the company’s most comprehensive commercial vehicle launches to date. The new range introduces the Azura series for the intermediate and light commercial vehicle (ILMCV) segment, debuts the Tata Trucks.ev brand with India’s widest electric truck lineup, and brings major upgrades to the existing Prima, Signa and Ultra platforms. The newly launched trucks have been engineered to meet stringent European safety standards (ECE R29 03), while also focusing on improved payload capacity, fuel efficiency and digital fleet management, aimed at enhancing profitability and reducing total cost of ownership for fleet operators. Azura series debuts for ILMCV segment A key highlight of the launch is the introduction of the Azura series, developed specifically for the ILMCV space. Designed to prioritise productivity, comfort and uptime, Azura trucks are powered by a new 3.6-litre diesel engine, offering improved performance and efficiency. The Azura range will be available in 7 to 19-tonne configurations, targeting applications such as e-commerce and FMCG logistics, white goods distribution, construction material transport, agricultural produce, industrial goods, and regional and intercity haulage. Tata Motors says the range has been engineered for a fatigue-free driving experience, combining improved cabin ergonomics with durability-focused design. European crash safety standards across the range Tata Motors has upgraded its entire truck lineup—including Signa, Prima, Ultra and Azura—to comply with ECE R29 03 crash norms, making it the only Indian manufacturer to offer trucks built to this international standard across multiple segments. The cabins are designed for full frontal, rollover and side-impact protection. In addition, the trucks are equipped with up to 23 India-specific active safety features, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and collision mitigation systems. Safety is further enhanced through real-time driving behaviour monitoring via Tata Motors’ Fleet Edge connected vehicle platform. Focus on higher profitability and lower operating costs Alongside safety upgrades, Tata Motors has focused on improving operator economics. Payload capacity across the range has increased by up to 1.8 tonnes, while drivetrain enhancements—led by the 6.7-litre Cummins diesel engine—deliver up to 7 percent better fuel efficiency. Fleet operations are supported by the introduction of Fleet Edge Priority, which offers real-time vehicle health monitoring, predictive analytics and trip optimisation insights. According to Tata Motors, these measures are aimed at maximising asset utilisation, reducing downtime and improving returns for transporters. Tata Trucks.ev expands electric truck offerings Accelerating its push toward zero-emission logistics, Tata Motors introduced Tata Trucks.ev, its new electric truck brand based on the I-MOEV (Intelligent Modular Electric Vehicle) architecture. The electric portfolio spans 7 to 55 tonnes, making it the widest electric truck range currently offered in India. The lineup includes the Ultra EV range in 7, 9 and 12-tonne configurations for urban and regional operations, the Prima E.55S prime mover featuring 470 kW of power and a 453 kWh battery, and the Prima E.28K electric tipper designed for construction and mining applications. These trucks are aimed at reducing operating costs while enabling decarbonisation in high-usage commercial segments. Tata Motors highlighted that the electric range has been developed with deep localisation, including indigenous battery management systems and EV components, supported by customised financing solutions and an expanding nationwide charging ecosystem. End-to-end ownership support The new truck range is backed by Tata Motors’ Sampoorna Seva 2.0 ecosystem, which includes a wide service network, 24×7 roadside assistance, assured spare parts availability, connected Fleet Edge services, AMC options with driver training, and tailored financing solutions. With this launch, Tata Motors is positioning itself to address evolving demands in the Indian trucking sector, combining global safety standards, improved operating efficiency and a broad electric vehicle strategy aimed at supporting the country’s transition toward cleaner and more efficient logistics.
