The company currently supplies Kenya, Burundi, and Uganda, with expansion talks underway for Malawi and beyond. Producing 800,000 tons annually, the fertilizers blend natural nutrients with affordable chemical components, addressing soil fertility challenges across East Africa and boosting crop yields.
Tanzanian organo-mineral producing outfit is planning to start supplying organic agricultural inputs, precisely fertilizers, to all countries on the African continent.
So far, the company has been shipping its hybrid organo-mineral fertilizers to Kenya, Burundi, and Uganda, with negotiations underway to expand exports to Malawi and later on to other African countries
Churning out an average of 800,000 metric tons of organo-mineral fertilizers in a year, an agro-industry facility is inching out to expand services down to grassroots level.
Based in Dodoma, ITRACOM, is currently serving farmers across all 26 mainland regions and districts, on the mainland Tanzania.
The company is now planning to spread the supply of its organo-mineral agricultural inputs down across each and every rural ward in the country.
The move goes hand in hand with raising farmers’ awareness about the importance of using organo-mineral fertilizers to increase productivity and maintain safe and healthier agricultural harvests.
ITRACOM has been manufacturing high-quality fertilizers that have become a solution to soil fertility challenges across East Africa.
Currently, Itracom operates maintains its supplies through a total of 156 storage silos nationwide, along with several mini-production plants.
ITRACOM’s Director of Business Development and Marketing Claudia Kimako, said fertilizers produced by the company have become the preferred choice for farmers nationwide because they blend natural nutrients with chemical components, yet keeping affordable pricing.
“The government’s fertilizer subsidy scheme assists many smallholder farmers to access quality agricultural inputs including fertilizers and seed kernels and thus significantly enhancing their productivity.
But their supplies are not restricted within country borders; Since 2023, the company has been exporting fertilizers to Kenya, Burundi, and Uganda, with negotiations underway to expand their shipments to Malawi and other African countries, she added.
On his part, Itracom’s Deputy Managing Director Dr Joel Meliyo pointed out that the company conducted extensive research, dissemination, and performance evaluations to ensure its fertilizers meet required standards.
Organomineral fertilizers combine organic matter, such as manure and compost, earth minerals such as mined rock phosphate, dolomite, calcite and magnesite.
These are supplemented with Urea, diammonium phosphate (DAP) and Muriate of potash (MOP), offering balanced soil nutrition to boost crop yields.
