TAIS Shipyards and Barzan Holdings Ink MoU for Frigate Projects

TAIS Shipyards and Qatari Barzan Holdings announced the signing of a MoU during the DIMDEX 2026 defence exhibition, covering cooperation on frigate projects. TAIS Shipyards stated that the MoU with Qatar’s defence firm cluster Barzan Holdings covers frigate projects. In contrast, Barzan Holdings stated that a deal with TAIS Shipyards was signed for the Indonesian Armed Forces valued at $1 billion. Neither of the firms provided details on the cooperation. Still, the inclusion of Indonesia and the fact that TAIS is among the shipyards responsible for the construction of the I-class frigates raises questions about the MoU being connected to the I-class frigate sale to Indonesia. Previously, at IDEF2025, a contract was signed between the Indonesian MoD and TAIS Shipyards for the construction of two I-class frigates. Other Turkish firms that signed contracts with Barzan Holdings during DIMDEX 2026 are STM (UAVs and UUVs), ASELSAN (Expansion of BARQ JV), ASFAT, and MKE. Author: Kaan Azman
