Tagbilaran City Crowned Champion in Sinulog Grand Parade

CEBU CITY – Commendations continued to pour in for Tagbilaran City, Bohol, which shone bright in its first-ever participation in the Sinulog Grand Parade. Bohol Gov. Aris Aumentado lauded the victory of Tagbilaran, saying it was a proud moment not only for the city but for the entire province of Bohol. Tagbilaran carved a historic mark on the national cultural stage after emerging as champion in the Sinulog-based category of the Grand Ritual Showdown on Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Cebu City Sports Center. Tagbilaran also won the Best in Musicality award. Bannered by the Pundok sa Nagkahiusang Bol-anon of the City of Tagbilaran, the award-winning contingent was composed of more than 400 performers led by Barangay Ubujan, a four-time Saulog Street Dance Grand Champion. Tagbilaran’s winning performance showcased Bolibongkingking, a sacred healing ritual from Loboc that honors Our Lady of Guadalupe de Extremadura and reflects deep devotion to Señor Santo Niño. The presentation stood out for its seamless fusion of ritual, rhythm, and reverence. The choreography by Kabkad Productions, complemented by the compelling musicality of the Bohol United Symphonic Band, Pentagon Drum and Bugle Corps Inc., and Candungao Rondalya Barrio Musicians, elevated Bohol’s cultural narrative and brought its living traditions to life on the Sinulog stage. “Kini nga kadaogan usa ka matahum nga panaghiusa sa nagkalain-laing tunog ug kultura sa Bohol, ilabi na ang impluwensya sa Bolibongkingking Festival sa Loboc (This victory is a beautiful blend of various music and cultures in Bohol, especially the influence of Bolibongkingking Festival in Loboc),” Aumentado said. Aumentado recognized the role of cultural bearers in Bohol, who contributed to the success. The governor emphasized that Tagbilaran’s victory was a symbol of progressive cultural preservation through unity. “This triumph symbolizes the exceptional talent and unity of the Boholanos,” Aumentado said.
