Suspect Hospitalized After Stolen Vehicle Overturns in Keetmanshoop

Staff Reporter THREE male suspects were arrested at Keetmanshoop on Saturday after they allegedly stole a vehicle, which overturned moments later, injuring the driver. It is alleged that the trio climbed over a perimeter wall of a house in Kronlein, broke into the house, found the key for the padlock of the main gate together with the key for a Toyota Hilux VVTI pickup, which they stole by pushing it out of the yard and then driving it away. The thieves also stole a microwave, which they abandoned next to the gravel road in the Noordhoek location, where they were observed spinning the vehicle around. The police’s preliminary investigation found that the vehicle almost overturned in the location, and two of the suspects got out, leaving the 31-year-old driver alone as he continued to drive recklessly. He overturned the vehicle moments later while driving on the gravel road to Aroab. Keetmanshoop-based police officers found the injured suspect at the scene of the accident and summoned an ambulance, which rushed him to hospital, where he received medical attention under police guard. The other two suspects, aged 16 and 17, were also traced and arrested.
