David Williams remains in hospital this weekend
An MP is recovering in hospital this weekend - after being struck down with the 'horrible flu'. Stoke-on-Trent North MP David Williams had planned to attend Thursday night's meeting of Sandyford and Goldenhill Residents' Association.
Instead he was admitted to St Thomas' Hospital - in the shadow of the House of Commons.
Mr Williams said: "I am currently at the hospital opposite Parliament. Around a week ago, I came down with that horrible flu and then I managed to suffer from some pretty horrible complications. But we have a brilliant NHS and the compassionate and dedicated staff got right to work and I'm nearly fixed and nearly out.
"I'm sorry that I have had to cancel a number of visits across Stoke-on-Trent and Kidsgrove but I'll be back in action very soon indeed. A huge thanks, too, to my team for being so brilliant over recent days.
"My care and stay here has reaffirmed why we must always do all that we can to support and fight for our NHS and its remarkable people and I'll take on anyone who tries to weaken it. A huge thank you from me to everyone for your care and compassion."
