Tragic Shebeen Scuffle in Epako Ends in Death

Staff Reporter TWO men, who had been drinking together at a shebeen in the Kanaan C location of Epako, Omaheke Region, late on Wednesday afternoon, became involved in a heated scuffle which culminated in the tragic death of a 40-year-old victim and the arrest of a 33-year-old suspect. It is alleged that the two exchanged furious words after consuming an alcoholic traditional brew. According to the police, the fighting escalated when the suspect took a knife from his pocket and stabbed the deceased once in the upper body. When the deceased fell to the ground, the suspect then stepped on him with both feet before fleeing the scene, with members of the community in pursuit. By the time they caught up with him, he had already changed his clothes in an attempt to blend in. The police expressed gratitude that community members had arrested the suspect without causing him harm. However, the police have advised against citizens making arrests, as violent crime suspects can be potentially dangerous and may retaliate unexpectedly. People are, therefore, advised to monitor suspects and report them to the police.
