Anderson, Jefferson & Jones Shatter Records at Mondo College Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's track teams returned to the track on Saturday competing in the Mondo College Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The women saw freshman Ayzia Jefferson break the 200-meter school record, the men saw freshmen Emery Anderson and Jeremiah Jones break the 200m and 600m school records, respectively. Twelve Spartans recorded personal bests during the meet. Jefferson clocked in a time of 25.95 in the 200-meter seeded run placing 18th overall. Her time broke UNCG's previous school record time of 26.79 by Alexis Rice on Feb. 24, 2018, at the 2018 Southern Conference (SoCon) Indoor Championship in Lexington, Virginia. Anderson posted a time of 22.73 in the 200-meter run, taking home 22nd out of 63 competitors. His time broke the previous UNCG school record of 23.42, set by Daniel Rust on Feb. 8, 2019, at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia. Jones also now has his name etched in UNCG record books after clocking in a time of 1:22.63 in the 600-meter run. He placed ninth out of 20 competitors in the event. He broke the previous record of 1:23.83 set by Colin Alexander on Dec. 3, 2022, at Visit Winston-Salem Kickoff at the JDL Fast Track. Seven Spartans also finished in the top 10 of their respective races, as well as the men's 4x400m relay team. On the women's side, junior Tenley Douglass, who finished in 14th place in the mile out of 57 competitors, clocked in an 11-second personal best time of 5:18.58. Sophomore Hailey Meyers paced a quartet of Spartans who ran the 3000-meter run, clocking in a time of 10:27.00, good for ninth out of 40 competitors. Senior Chelsea Valdivia-Rizo placed 10th in the 400-meter run, posting a time 1:03.73 among a 34-athlete field. On the men's side, junior Khalid Abdullahi also had an 11-second personal best time of 4:12.81 in the mile placing him in sixth place out of 74 competitors. Senior Luke Ward took home eighth place in the 3000-meter run, finishing with a time of 8:38.05 out of 58 competitors. Junior Samuel Barnard turned in a personal best time of 2:31.66 in the 1000-meter run earning eighth place out of 27 in the field. Senior Glodi Mvovi finished ninth out of 37 competitors in the 800-meter run, clocking in a personal best time of 1:57.27.
