Russell Brand Appears in Court Over New Rape Allegations

He has already denied two charges of rape, two of sexual assault and one of indecent assault in relation to four women between 1999 and 2005. Brand, who moved to America a year ago, now faces allegations in relation to six women. A trial in relation to the five original charges is scheduled to begin in June at Southwark crown court. He is accused of raping a woman in a hotel room in Bournemouth after he met her at an event during the Labour Party conference in 1999, and attempting to drag a woman into a men’s lavatory in 2001 after grabbing her arm, the court was told in May. It is also alleged that Brand orally raped and sexually assaulted a television worker in London after dragging her into a men’s lavatory in 2004, and that he grabbed a radio station worker’s face, kissed her and grabbed her breast and buttocks in 2004 or 2005. Detectives began investigating a number of allegations in September 2023 after a joint investigation by The Times, The Sunday Times and Channel 4 Dispatches. He has denied the allegations. Brand, who was born in Essex, emerged as a British television personality in the 2000s hosting shows such as Big Brother’s Big Mouth and his own BBC radio programmes. He established a career in Hollywood and appeared in the films Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek. Brand was married to the American pop singer Katy Perry from 2010 to 2012. In 2017 he married Laura Gallacher, sister of the TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher. The couple have three children.
