PS Plus Shifts Strategy: PS4 Games No Longer a Priority

As communicated by Sony a year ago, PS Plus changes its focus from this month, to where including native PS4 games in its monthly updates is no longer a priority. From the January 2025 PlayStation Blog post, Sony said: "As we shift to PS5, PS4 games will no longer be a key benefit and will only be occasionally offered for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog starting January 2026. We may still provide titles that can be playable on both PS4 and PS5 consoles after this date." This change in focus has now come into effect, but looking at the PS Plus Essential and PS Plus Extra lineups for the month, you probably wouldn't be able to tell. Of the three titles added to PS Plus Essential at the start of January 2026, two of them have PS4 versions: Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed and Core Keeper. It was only Need for Speed Unbound without a PS4 edition.
