Ottawa County Pileup: Over 100 Cars Involved, Numerous Injuries Reported

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — More than 100 cars were involved in a pileup on 196 in Zeeland Township on Monday morning, according to Ottawa County dispatch. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said numerous injuries are reported, but none are believed to be fatal at this point. Both the westbound and eastbound lanes have crashes, dispatch said. The highway is expected to remain closed for several hours in both directions between the Hudsonville Exit 62 and the Zeeland Exit 55. It will take time for crews to clean up the wreckage and remove inoperable vehicles. Several semi trucks are believed to have jackknifed. Sheriff's deputies are working with the area ambulance and fire services to treat the wounded and get them to local hospitals. Buses from Hudsonville High School and Max Transit are helping move stranded drivers. Motorists who are stranded on the highway are urged to stay in their vehicles until first responders can get them on a bus for transport to Hudsonville High School. Once at the high school, folks can arrange for pickup. There are multiple slide-offs and fender benders reported across West Michigan. Avoid traveling on Monday if possible. Road conditions are treacherous. Wind is blowing the lake-effect snow, causing whiteout conditions.
