Nzema Youth Urge Action on Petroleum Hub Operations

A youth group in Nzema has urged President John Dramani Mahama to provide a clear and realistic roadmap for the operationalisation of the Petroleum Hub Corporation, citing concerns over delayed implementation and its impact on local job creation. Speaking at a press conference in Nkroful on Sunday January 18, the Concerned Youth of Nzema highlighted that the continued non-operationalization of the Petroleum Hub Project is denying the local population potential employment opportunities and weakening investor confidence in the initiative. Jonas Kabutey, President of the youth group, also called for transparency and consistent communication from government authorities on the progress of the project. He stressed that public uncertainty had been fueled by the absence of clear timelines. The Petroleum Hub Project was launched as a flagship national initiative under the previous administration, with the goal of positioning Ghana as a downstream petroleum and petrochemical hub in West Africa. It was expected to attract foreign direct investment, generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, particularly for youth, and boost the local economy in Nzema. Despite the project’s promise at its launch, the youth expressed frustration over the continuous delays, which have persisted even a year into the current administration. “The absence of clear timelines and transparent communication has fueled public uncertainty and concern. We, the people of Nzema, are particularly worried about the impact of these delays on host communities, who were promised socio-economic opportunities and inclusive participation. We humbly call on President Mahama to provide a clear and realistic roadmap for the operationalization of the Petroleum Hub Corporation.”
