Ntiamoah Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has donated quantities of food items to 300 aged and persons with disabilities selected from six communities in the Birim North District in the Eastern Region. Dubbed “Ntiamoah Foundation’s Christmas giveaway programme”, each of the beneficiaries from Akyem Afosu, Abodom, Pepotumtum, Prasokuma, Ntronang and Hweakwae, received five kilogrammes of rice, two litres of edible oil and a crate of eggs. The foundation simultaneously also donated packed food, bottled water and soft drinks to 300 street children in Accra. Speaking at the ceremony at Afosu, the Programmes Manager of Ntiamoah Foundation, Williams Sarpong, said the gesture, which was an annual affair, was aimed at putting smiles on the faces of the beneficiaries for them to feel that they were not neglected in society. He advised the beneficiaries not to sell the items but to use them. Sustain generosity Mr Sarpong was grateful to the staff of the Department of Social Welfare in the Birim North District and the assembly members of the beneficiary communities for their support to ensure the success of the programme. He gave an assurance that the programme would be expanded to benefit more beneficiaries next year. The Overseer of the Afosu branch of Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Prince Adinyira, who chaired the function, was full of praise for Ntiamoah Foundation for bringing joy to the faces of the elderly people in the six communities. He, however, urged the NGO to sustain the generosity. Mr Adinyira, a government-appointed assembly member, appealed to well-to-do organisations to take a cue from the Ntiamoah Foundation to support the elderly and deprived people in the country, for them to lead decent lifestyles.
