Slaters Country Inn in Baldwins Gate seemingly shut for good yesterday (January 18). The website is no longer working and the phone is not being answered this evening (January 19). A notice posted in the Stone Road hotel's window, reads: "With great sadness, Slater's Ltd ceased trading with affect from January 18, 2026. After 35 years in business, the directors and staff extend their heartfelt thanks to all out customers for their loyalty, friendship and support. "It has been a privilege to serve you, and we are deeply grateful for the relationships built over many years." The hotel is based on an 18th century farm and has 12 en-suite bedrooms, plus three family suites in a separate courtyard. There is also a country pub serving bar meals all day and a restaurant in the evening. It is also a popular wedding and conference venue. The hotel had attracted hundreds of excellent reviews on Google, scoring an impressive 4.5 out of a possible five stars. However, the sudden closure has been met with shock from customers. One said on social media: "It's such a shame, a sign of the times. " Another added: "It's not good at all. They're a very popular venue."
