Nobl's New FAR Series Wheels: The Lightest Aero Option for Gravel

Aero's influence on gravel stretches far beyond just modern gravel bike frames. Much like their road-going compatriots, aerodynamic gains are finding their way onto gravel wheels, and that's exactly the case for Nobl's new FAR Series wheelsets, which it claims sets a benchmark in "wide-gravel performance". It comprises two wheelsets, the FAR50 and FAR40, bringing a choice of two rim depths to the party. The FAR Series has been constructed to appease riders who ride events like Unbound and utilise technologies first found on the brand's mountain bike wheelsets. Both the FAR50 and FAR40 use very similar constructions, as they get 29mm internal widths and outer profiles shaped for aerodynamics. Those rims also use Nobl's Fusion Hook Bead design, which the brand claims provides better tyre retention than standard hookless designs while boasting improved impact strength than clincher rims. Claiming to weigh 400g (FAR50) and 360g (FAR40), we're told that full wheelsets tip the scale at as little as 1135g, and that's a set kitted with Berd spokes. The brand continues to state that both models exceed 140kJ in impact testing. The FAR50 is what Nobl reckons is the fastest wheelset it has ever made. As its name suggests, it rocks a 50mm rim depth for all of the aerodynamic gains. That profile is teardrop-shaped, too, with its widest point 15mm below the bead, which we're told helps reduce drag while combating crosswinds. The FAR40 is then designed to balance those aerodynamic gains with weight savings. This one is 40mm deep (as I've bet you've guessed) and follows a rounder shape. Nobl says that it's the do-it-all wheel that's responsive, nimble, and strong. Both wheels are available in the 700c size only, come with 24 spoke holes and can accommodate 38 to 57mm tyres. They're then available in a range of builds, with DT180, DT240, DT350, Onyx Vesper, i9 Solix R, Hope Pro 5 and Chris King hub options. Customers can then choose from Alpina Extralite, Sapim bladed CX-Ray and Berd PolyLight spokes. Of course, there are rim-only options too.
