Morogoro RC Office Construction: Contractor Given Six Months to Finish

MOROGORO: MINISTER of State in the Prime Minister’s OfficeRegional Administration and Local Government (PMO– RALG), Professor Riziki Shemdoe, has directed the contractor of MCB Ltd, affiliated with Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST), to complete the construction of the Morogoro Regional Commissioner’s office by July 2026. Prof Shemdoe issued the directive during a recent working visit to inspect the implementation of development projects, including the construction of the RC’s office. The construction began on May 27, 2022, and was initially scheduled for completion on May 26, 2024. “I am giving six months ultimatum for the completion of the RC’s building, this job must be completed by July, this year. All requirements are available including funds, the supervising consultant from the Buildings Agency and the contractor is on site,” Prof Shemdoe said. He further instructed Morogoro Regional Commissioner, Mr Adam Malima to make sure the contractor is not granted any extensions saying should the contractor fail to complete the project on time, a new contractor must be appointed to finish the building promptly. ALSO READ: MPs call for stronger occupational safety supervision in informal sector The minister also urged the supervising consultant from the Tanzania Buildings Agency (TBA) to execute their duties diligently, promising to return in July to inspect the building. He recalled witnessing the laying of the building’s foundation in 2022 while serving as Secretary to the President’s Office – RALG. Prof Shemdoe instructed the Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), Dr Mussa Ali Mussa, to meet with the supervising consultant and the contractor to develop a detailed work plan for completing the office, to be submitted within one week. Dr Mussa, while accepting the minister’s directives, expressed earlier doubts about the contractor’s ability to complete the project, citing limited performance. Meanwhile, building designer Justine Katabaro of MCB Ltd confirmed that they have received the minister’s instructions and will work with the RAS and the supervising consultant to prepare a plan, which will ensure the office is completed and handed over by July 2026. Engineer Khamadu Kitunzi from TBA explained that the office is a three-story building: The ground floor is designated for parking and driver offices; the first and second floors will house staff offices and a hall; and the third floor will accommodate the RC and RAS’s offices. The project, which is estimated to cost 6.5bn/-, began in 2022. According to TBA, the project is currently 69 per cent complete.
