Masters Snooker Final Halted: Medical Emergency Causes Suspension

SUNDAY’S Masters snooker final was temporarily suspended following a medical emergency in the crowd. Kyren Wilson and John Higgins were taken off at Alexandra Palace with the score level at 1-1 due to the incident amongst the spectators. After the Warrior won the second frame to level up the final, the TV broadcast went back to the studio where Hazel Irvine spoke with multiple world champions Stephen Hendry and Steve Davis. During their chat, the respected Scottish broadcaster explained why there was a brief delay in the Ally Pally arena, saying: “I should tell you that we have had something of a medical emergency. “I understand that things are in hand at the moment. So the players have both been taken off for the time being. “So it does give us time to reflect on the events earlier in the week.” Both players left the arena momentarily but when they returned, Irvine said: “We are hearing that the lady who had become unwell in the audience is fine. “She’s just leaving the auditorium right now. Our best wishes to her and her family. “We understand that the players are on their way back to resume this final in our first session here at Alexandra Palace. Here they come. “It’s hot, it’s always an intense atmosphere. Not just for the players but, of course, for the 2,000-plus spectators. “It has happened a couple of times through the week. But all is well we understand and we are ready to rock once again as we start frame three” Irishman Ken Doherty, the 1997 world champion, who in the commentary booth, said: “We all hope the lady is well and gets the attention she needs. “I was talking to a lady in the wheelchair accessible area yesterday and she was saying how great the staff were with her. We must compliment them. “Also all the security and staff at Ally Pally. They are doing a fantastic job.” John Parrott, who became the Crucible King in 1991, responded: “Yeah, it’s a big old operation – to get 2,000-plus people in every day. “I couldn’t agree more. They do a great job.” Higgins and Wilson are battling it out in the best of 19 frames for Masters glory. The Wizard of Wishaw became the oldest finalist in the history of the sport’s Triple Crown series with his dramatic 6-5 win over world No1 Judd Trump on Saturday. His opponent Wilson – the Warrior – who is two-times Masters finalist defeated Wu Yize by the same scoreline. The winner of the showdown will not only land the prestigious Masters title but also walk away with a huge £350,000 jackpot.
