Markham Man Charged with Stalking After Repeated Incidents

A Markham, Ont., man has been charged in a stalking investigation after police allege he repeatedly attended the swimming lessons of a victim over a period of several months. York Regional Police said they were called to the Pan Am Centre in Markham on Jan. 12 at around 3:50 p.m. for a report of a suspicious person. “Officers learned that the victim was walking toward the entrance of the facility when an unknown male began calling the victim by their name,” police said in a news release issued Monday. “The male continuously called out their name until the victim was inside of the facility.” Police said the victim later noticed the same man in the stands and he was asked to leave the facility by staff, who contacted police. Investigators say they discovered that the man had been attending the victim’s swim lessons for several months. The man, identified by police as 54-year-old Luigi Kong, of Markham, was charged with criminal harassment. The charges have not yet been tested in court. Police said they are releasing a photo of the suspect and are asking any witnesses who have not yet spoken to investigators to contact York Regional Police.
