Mark English Shatters Own Irish 800m Indoor Record in Luxembourg

Mark English made a flying start to the year by breaking his own national 800m indoor record in Luxembourg on Sunday. Running in the CMCM Luxembourg Indoor Meeting, the Donegal man finished strongly on the final lap to cross the line in 1:44.65. That beat the 1:45.15 time that the three-time Olympian set at the Millrose Games in New York last year by just under a second. It also represents a meeting record over the distance at the CMCM Luxembourg. The 32-year-old's new mark ranks 13th overall in the all-time indoor 800m list. English's performance follows another record-breaking indoors run over a shorter distance earlier this week. On Wednesday, he finished in a time of 1:15.80 in the 600m at the Track and Field Live Meet at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown. In the women's 800m, rising star Emma Moore took second place in an outright personal best of 2:02.34, also setting a new national Under-23 indoor record. Moore’s time improves on her previous best of 2:02.39 from December and brings her another step closer to the Athletics Ireland World Indoors B Standard of 2:02.20.
