Horrifying moment car bursts into flames after crash on M62 Pictures have revealed the horrifying moment a car burst into flames following a crash on the M62. Emergency crews raced to the scene near Warrington on Sunday (January 18). The motorway was forced to close at junction nine following the collision involving three vehicles. Both sides were initially shut, with diversions put in place. The incident was reported at around 3.30pm, with one car bursting into flames after the crash. A spokesperson for the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Emergency services have been dealing with a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on the M62 eastbound carriageway near Junction 9. One of the vehicles involved in the collision caught fire and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. "The motorway was closed in both directions while the fire was being extinguished. Shortly before 16:00 the westbound side of the motorway was reopened. Ambulance crews on also at the scene assessing one person involved in the collision. "No one was trapped in their vehicle. The eastbound side of the motorway is expected to remain closed for some time. " Traffic building due to closure this afternoon Congestion is continuing to build this afternoon due to the ongoing M62 closure. Drivers have been warned to 'expect delays' and find alternative routes this afternoon. Police, paramedics and fire crews remain at the scene.
