In short:
The UK's Crown Prosecution Service says it will not pursue a further 11 charges of murder and attempted murder against convicted baby killer Lucy Letby.
It had considered the cases, relating to the deaths and non-fatal collapses of babies at hospitals where Letby had once worked, the Countess of Chester Hospital and Liverpool Women's Hospital.
Letby is the UK's worst serial child killer in modern times, having been convicted in August 2023 of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six more. She remains behind bars.
The UK's Crown Prosecution Service says it will not pursue additional criminal charges against former nurse Lucy Letby, already convicted of murdering seven babies, concerning further allegations of infant deaths and non-fatal collapses.
Letby, 36, is serving a whole life sentence after being convicted of killing the newborns and attempting to murder seven more between June 2015 and June 2016 while working in the neonatal unit at a hospital in northern England.
She is considered Britain's worst serial child killer of modern times.
In a statement released on Tuesday, local time, the Crown Prosecution Service's head of special crime and counter terrorism division, Frank Ferguson, said it had considered further deaths and non-fatal collapses of babies at hospitals where Letby had once worked, the Countess of Chester Hospital and Liverpool Women's Hospital.
“Following a thorough review of that evidence, we have decided that no criminal charges should be brought in respect of those further allegations," he said.
Eleven charges were considered in relation to a total of nine babies, with both murder and attempted murder considered in respect of two infants.
Nine of the considered offences occurred at the Countess of Chester Hospital while two related to alleged incidents at the Liverpool Women's Hospital.
"We concluded that the evidential test was not met in any of those cases.
"As always, this decision was made independently, based on the evidence and in line with our legal test.
"The CPS has written to the families involved and will offer meetings to explain our decision-making in further detail. Our thoughts remain with them."
In August 2023, Letby was found guilty of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill six more.
She was sentenced to life in prison.
