LTA System Reset to Fix Inaccurate Bus Arrival Timings

SINGAPORE: Commuters will not be able to see estimated bus arrival timings at bus stops and transport apps from 8pm on Wednesday (Jan 21) when the Land Transport Authority (LTA) resets a system to fix the issue of inaccurate timings. LTA said earlier that it was investigating technical issues that were causing long wait times to be displayed. "Preliminary findings on the technical issues affecting the Expected Time of Arrival (ETA) system for buses indicate that there is an intermittent transmission issue with the on-board systems for some buses, which resulted in missing bus arrival predictions for a small proportion of buses across our bus network," LTA said in an afternoon update. To resolve the issue, LTA will reset the ETA system. During this period, commuters will not be able to see the buses’ estimated arrival time at electronic displays at bus stops and interchanges, as well as apps like MyTransport.SG, CityMapper and Google. "We will update commuters once the ETA system is back up," said LTA, adding that bus operations will not be affected during this period. Buses will continue to operate at their usual frequencies, and commuters can check the frequency on the SimplyGo and public transport operators’ websites, said the agency. The issue was first detected on Jan 10, LTA said, adding that "more inaccuracies were subsequently detected over the course of the week". "Our engineers and ETA system contractors are working with the bus operators to rectify the issue as soon as possible," LTA said.
