Léa Seydoux Stars Alongside Mikey Madison in New A24 Movie

Palme d’Or-winning French actress Léa Seydoux (Dune: Part Two) is set to star opposite Academy Award winner Mikey Madison in The Masque of the Red Death, the new film from A24 and Picturestart, billed as a revisionist and darkly comedic take on the short story of the same name by Edgar Allen Poe. No word on the role to be played by Seydoux. Published in 1842, Poe’s story follows Prince Prospero, who retreats with a group of nobles into a fortified abbey as a deadly plague ravages the countryside. To distract themselves, the elites host an elaborate masked ball, but as the night progresses, an unsettling presence disrupts the celebration, forcing the guests to confront the reality they believed they had shut out. The project hails from Charlie Polinger, a writer-director coming off his Cannes-premiering directorial debut with a psychological drama ironically titled The Plague, which is nonetheless an entirely different sort of story. Julia Hammer and Erik Feig will produce for Picturestart, alongside James Presson and Lucy McKendrick, with Polinger exec producing. A24 will distribute the film worldwide. Known for her work with auteurs ranging from Wes Anderson and Yorgos Lanthimos to David Cronenberg, Bertrand Bonello, and Mia Hansen-Løve, Seydoux has recently been seen in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two for Legendary/Warner Bros., as well as the Bond films Spectre and No Time to Die, playing Bond girl Madeleine Swann. In 2013, she was awarded the Palme d’Or for Blue Is the Warmest Colour, the romantic drama from filmmaker Abdellatif Kechiche. Upcoming, Seydoux will be seen starring in Oscar-winning Anatomy of a Fall co-writer Arthur Harari’s The Unknown, Marie Kreutzer’s Gentle Monster alongside Catherine Deneuve, and the Zellner Brothers’ Alpha Gang with Cate Blanchett and Dave Bautista.
