Latvia Braces for Severe Frost: Temperatures Plunge Below -15°C

Over most of the country, temperatures will drop below -15 C. From Monday evening to Tuesday morning, a yellow alert for severe frost issued by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre will be in effect in the eastern part of the country. The sun will shine during the day, but cloudy weather without precipitation is expected in parts of Kurzeme and northwestern Vidzeme. With slow winds and calm conditions, the air temperature in the middle of the day will range between -4 and -14 degrees. Due to the cold and calm weather, air quality will deteriorate in some places, especially in cities. Rīga is expected to have a sunny Tuesday with a light southerly wind. The air temperature in the morning will be -13 C in the city centre and up to -21 degrees in the suburbs; during the day, temperatures are expected to be around -10 degrees.
