VAR Controversy: Lamine Yamal's Goal Ruled Out for Barcelona

VAR was in the spotlight again on Sunday night as Barcelona took on Real Sociedad at Anoeta in La Liga. The Catalan giants saw an early strike from Fermin Lopez ruled out for a foul by Dani Olmo in the build-up and also saw Lamine Yamal have a goal chalked off for offside. Yet the images of the incident showed that it was a very tight offside call indeed. Indeed it brought back memories of when Robert Lewandowski saw a goal ruled out against Real Sociedad because his big toenail was deemed to be offside. Hansi Flick called it the “wrong decision” after the match and is unlikely to be too impressed with tonight’s decision either. Barcelona also had a goal by midfielder Frenkie de Jong ruled out before half-time, while Yamal was denied a penalty right at the end of the half thanks to another offside call.
