KTM Recalls Multiple 2025 390 Models Due to Critical Side Stand Fault

On affected bikes, which were produced between certain calendar dates only, normal engine vibration could break the side stand spring. When you think of engine vibration damping causing issues with anything in the 2020s, chances are good that your brain goes directly to your smartphone. There is, after all, a reason that Apple directly advises iPhone owners to avoid exposing their phones to vibrations from high-powered motorcycle engines. One thing you probably don't expect is for the side stand spring on a range of motorcycles to not be up to the task of handling any and all engine vibrations that it might face. However, that's exactly why KTM North America is recalling certain 2025 390 Adventure R, SMC R, Adventure X, and Enduro R motorcycles. Units produced between certain dates may have their side stand springs break due to regular engine vibrations, and it could occur while the motorcycle is being ridden. If the spring breaks, the side stand could fall to the ground, which could shut the ignition off and increase the risk of a crash and/or injury. Approximately 2,512 individual motorcycles may be affected by this recall, according to KTM North America's records. This represents approximately 1 percent of the population. According to KTM, no injuries have been reported so far that have been related to this issue. The remedy will involve replacement of the old side stand spring with a new unit that includes a rubber protector to dampen the vibrations coming from the engine and better protect the spring. Additionally, a new side stand sensor plate will be installed at the time of the recall service, which will shift the trigger range of the side stand switch. KTM North America notified its dealer network about this issue on or about December 19, 2025. It plans to issue notification letters to registered owners of affected 2025 390s on or about February 17, 2026.
