NBA Insider Drops Major Knicks Trade Update

The New York Knicks have not been having the kind of 2025-26 NBA season that they were expecting and currently hold a 25-18 record. While they are still without a doubt a contender in the Eastern Conference, the Knicks simply have not gelled together as a team. That has led to some swirling rumors as the NBA trade deadline continues to draw closer. Recently, a report came out from Steve Popper of Newsday Sports that New York could trade star big man Karl-Anthony Towns. However, that may not be the case after all. Trading Towns would be a big shift in plans for the Knicks. It’s a move that could make sense if they’re ready to tear down most of what they have built leading up to this point in time. New York Knicks Don’t Seem Interested in Big Changes According to a new report from Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, New York isn’t looking to trade any core players at this point in time. Of course, that could change at any moment. It’s possible that the Knicks will decide that they can’t win a championship with the current makeup of the roster. Should they get to that point, a Towns trade might make a lot of sense. For now, they seem likely to move forward with Towns as an integral piece of their championship hopes. Mannix’s report also suggests that multiple other players aren’t on the trade market either. Some of those players include Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart. New York seems to prefer the idea of staying the course and hoping that players come together and figure it out. On paper, the Knicks have the talent to win it all. However, the product on the court has not been able to rise up to that level just yet. What Kind of Season Has Karl-Anthony Towns Had So Far? Towns has played solid basketball this season for New York. As has been the case throughout his entire career, he has been able to put up big numbers. In the 40 games he has played so far this season, the 30-year-old center has averaged 21 points per game to go along with 11.6 rebounds, three assists, and 0.9 steals. He has also shot 46.7 percent from the floor and 35.8 percent from three-point range. One clear issue has been Towns’ shooting percentage. If the season were to end today, his 46.7 percent mark would be a career low. That is one area the veteran big man needs to improve throughout the rest of the year. The Knicks need him to be much more efficient. His three-point percentage is also down. Two yaers ago, he shot 41.6 percent from the arc and last season he was at 42 percent. Dropping to 35.8 percent is a tough mark as well. Expect to hear plenty of rumors surrounding the team as the trade deadline draws closer. Fans likely have not heard the last of Towns’ name floating around in the rumor mill. If New York decides that change is necessary, the star big man likely would be one of the first on the trade block.
