THE Namibia Water Corporation Ltd (NamWater) has announced that Karibib and surrounding areas will experience a water supply interruption next week.
“NamWater wishes to inform its stakeholders and customers of a water supply interruption affecting the Swakoppoort-Okongava water supply due to a faulty abstraction pump. The interruption affects customers such as the Karibib Town Council, the Navachab Mine, the Karibib Army Base, the Spes Bona community, the Otjimbingwe urban and rural areas, as well as customers along the Karibib-Otjimbingwe pipeline,” NamWater spokesperson, Lot Ndamanomhata, said.
Ndamanomhata assured stakeholders that the NamWater technical team is currently on site at the Swakoppoort Dam installing a new abstraction pump. However, he revealed that due to the extensive work involved, the installation is scheduled to be completed on 20 January 2026 and is expected to restore a reliable water supply to all affected areas.
“Given the above situation, NamWater kindly requests that the Karibib Town Council take the necessary precautionary measures and ask all affected customers to use available water sparingly to mitigate potential supply disruptions until normal operations are restored. NamWater will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide regular updates regarding the water restoration timelines. The Corporation regrets any inconvenience that may result from this water interruption,” Ndamanomhata said.
