Two Tanzanian nationals were arrested at the Namanga border post after a bus was found carrying bhang worth KSh2.5 million. Officers discovered 84 kilograms of cannabis hidden in the bus's fuel chamber. The driver and conductor were apprehended, and the vehicle and narcotics were seized. This operation underscores efforts to combat drug trafficking.
Officers, who are part of a multi-agency team, on Monday, January 19 intercepteda Kenya-bound bus from Tanzania loaded with cannabis cargo valued at approximately KSh2,520,000.
Reports indicate that the bus, registration no. T372 DWL, operating under Kidia One Express, was flagged down at the Namanga One-Stop Border Post.
At first, the crew of the PSV bus thought was a routine roadside check at the border post. But when highly-trained sniffer dogs were deployed to work, they flagged a suspicious package hidden at the vehicle’s fuel chamber.
The officers recovered four tightly wrapped bundles containing 84 packets of cannabis, weighing 84 kilograms.
The driver, 37-year-old George Ngoba, and his 25-year-old conductor, Trisha Lucas, both Tanzanian nationals, were arrested on the spot.
The duo is currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, the bus and the recovered narcotics are being detained as exhibits.
“This interception highlights the Government’s commitment to combating narcotics trafficking through strong enforcement, intelligence-led operations, and multi-agency collaboration to disrupt drug networks, prosecute traffickers, and protect communities from the harmful effects of illicit drugs,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says in a statement.
