Manchester United are interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes, according to reports. The Old Trafford side are reportedly looking to bring in a new midfielder to Michael Carrick’s squad before the window shuts and have identified the Brazilian as an effective addition. Gomes is also a target for both Atletico Madrid and defending Serie A champions Napoli, who are believed to have lined up the 24-year-old as a major target for the summer transfer window. The Italian club have engaged in early discussions regarding a deal for Gomes, but a move appears more likely after the season if Wolves suffer relegation from the Premier League. Gomes, praised for his 'insane work rate', has been an important player for Wolves since joining the Molineux outfit from Brazilian side Flamengo in January 2023. The 24-year-old was rewarded with a five-year contract extension in April 2025, but could look to depart after the season amid Wolves’ precarious Premier League position. Although unbeaten in their last four games, the Molineux side remain rock-bottom of the table, 14 points off safety. They have secured just six points in 11 games under new manager Rob Edwards, who replaced Vitor Pereira in November.
