IOM's 2026 Crisis Response Plan: Aid for 22 Million Across 32 Nations

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has released its 2026 Crisis Response Plans, outlining 32 prioritized country and regional strategies to address the world’s most urgent humanitarian emergencies through evidence-based and people-centered action. The plans set out how IOM will respond to rising global displacement and migration-related needs with targeted, coordinated interventions across crisis settings. In 2026, IOM aims to reach 22.7 million people, including migrants, internally displaced persons and host communities, with life-saving assistance and resilience-building support. Delivering this response will require USD 2.5 billion, a figure that reflects the scale and complexity of humanitarian needs worldwide and forms a core part of IOM’s Global Appeal for 2026. The organization emphasized that the funding requirement represents a strategic prioritization rather than a reduction in needs. With humanitarian demands continuing to grow, IOM has focused resources on the most severe crises, the most vulnerable populations and the interventions most likely to save lives and stabilize communities, while retaining the flexibility to expand operations as additional funding becomes available. The scale of displacement remains acute in several contexts, including Sudan, where nearly one in three people has been displaced since the conflict began. In response, IOM plans to seek USD 170 million in 2026 to support 1.3 million people affected by the crisis, combining urgent humanitarian assistance with longer-term efforts to strengthen resilience among displaced and returning populations, while prioritizing partnerships with local actors and institutions. Across all 32 plans, IOM underscored that timely and predictable funding is critical, as millions of lives depend on sustained humanitarian action.
