iodyne has expanded its Pro Data lineup with new 96TB and 192TB configurations, delivering 80TB and 160TB of usable capacity, respectively, when configured in RAID-6. The new high-capacity models maintain the same portable enclosure and sustained Thunderbolt performance that have made Pro Data a reliable choice for field production, post-production, and data transport workflows. The addition of 96TB and 192TB options addresses the growing storage demands facing production teams working with high-resolution formats like 8K RAW, multi-camera recording, and large-scale VFX projects. These new configurations are specifically designed for teams that need to carry large volumes of data while maintaining the portability and reliability required for field work. Both new models retain the familiar Pro Data dimensions of 15.39×10×1.22 inches / 39.1×25.4×3.1 cm and weight of 7.3 lbs / 3.3kg, making them backpack-ready despite the significant capacity increase. The drive features eight 40 GB/s Thunderbolt 3 ports and continues to deliver sustained speeds up to 5 GB/s, what iodyne calls TruePut for consistent performance in demanding workflows. RAID configurations and usable capacity The 96TB and 192TB Pro Data systems can be configured in RAID-6, which provides fault tolerance by allowing the system to survive two simultaneous SSD failures. In this configuration, the 96TB model delivers 80TB of usable capacity, while the 192TB model provides 160TB. For workflows that prioritize maximum capacity over redundancy, both systems can be configured in RAID-0 to access the full raw capacity. This flexibility enables cinematographers and DITs to strike the optimal balance between data protection and storage space, tailored to their specific workflow requirements. RAID-6 is typically preferred for mission-critical footage where data loss is unacceptable, while RAID-0 might be suitable for less critical content or when working with backup systems. Pro Data continues to feature full-disk AES-XTS-256 encryption with keys stored in a hardware Secure Enclave, ensuring footage remains protected even if the drive is lost or stolen in the field. Field production and remote workflows The new high-capacity configurations address several key use cases in professional production. For field and remote shoots where crews travel for extended periods, the compact Pro Data fits in carry-on luggage and can be powered by portable battery systems or XLR-based power sources. This makes it practical for international travel through customs and for locations where traditional AC power may be unreliable. Documentary filmmakers and large-scale content creators working in changing conditions often face unplanned increases in footage volume. Having 80TB or 160TB of usable capacity in a portable package provides headroom for these situations without requiring multiple drives or frequent data transfers. Physical data transport remains a practical necessity for many productions, particularly when moving hundreds of terabytes between locations where cloud transfer is impractical due to time, bandwidth, or cost constraints. Teams can work directly with high-resolution source files, eliminating the time and quality compromises associated with proxy-based workflows. The sustained 5 GB/s throughput supports real-time playback of 8K RAW and ProRes formats. Pro Data is commonly deployed as an ingest drive during production, a secure, encrypted shuttle drive for data transport, a primary post-production volume for editing and finishing, or as a performance companion to stationary NAS systems that may be limited by network bandwidth.
