EDMONTON, Alta. - The University of Saskatchewan Huskie men's and women's wrestling team, currently ranked second and third in the nation, were back in action this past weekend and taking part in their final conference meet ahead of the 2026 Canada West Championships. At the Golden Bear Invitational in Edmonton the Huskies put on yet another strong showing, with the Huskie men bringing home first place at the meet while the USask women secured a third-place finish.
Rookie Elizabeth Chapman highlighted things on the women's side of the tournament, with the local Saskatoon product bringing home first-place in the 50kg weight class while avenging her loss in November's Huskie Open. Four other Huskie women earned podium positions with Myah Clatney (65kg), Myah Phillips (83kg), and Sarah Murphy (90kg) earning second-place finishes and Taebyn Tulp (68kg) bringing home third.
The USask women finished just one point back of the host Alberta Pandas with 44 points in the team standings while the Calgary Dinos secured the win with 61 points.
On the men's side a trio of student-athletes secured gold medal finishes at the Saville Sports Centre. Yuel Kebrom did so in the 61kg weight class while Donovan Neudorf continued his impressive season in the 65kg weight class and finally, freshman Takis Sembalerus secured first-place in the 72 kg weight class. Deandrae Jabaybay (57kg) and Davyd Dzyuba (61kg) made if five Huskie podiums with Jabaybay bringing home second and Dzyuba third.
It was a convincing performance from the Saskatchewan men, who finished the day with a 14-point cushion over the host Alberta Golden Bears.
The Huskies will now begin their preparation for the 2026 Canada West Wrestling Championships set to take place back in Edmonton on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
