Tragic Death at Hahei Beach Despite Rescuer Efforts

A person has died after being pulled from the water at the Coromandel beach of Hahei this afternoon. Police said they were alerted at around 3.15pm to a man in need of assistance in the water near Tutaritari Rd, at the northern end of the beach. The man was found in the water and taken ashore in a critical condition, a police spokesperson said. "Sadly, despite best efforts by emergency services, the man died at the scene." Hato Hone St John said officers were notified of an incident at Hahei Beach at 3.23pm, dispatching one helicopter, one ambulance, one first response unit and one operational manager. Enquiries into the incident were ongoing.
