Russia Demands "Immoral" GTA 6 Content Removal or Faces Ban

Russia is threatening to prevent GTA 6 from releasing in the country unless “immoral content,” such as the leaked addition of male strippers, is removed. Rockstar’s long-awaited GTA 6 is finally set to release on November 19, 2026, and while a lot of info about the game has been kept under wraps, there have been a plethora of leaked details. Primarily, as confirmed by Rockstar themselves, a series of features and other tidbits about GTA 6 were leaked on social media last year, leading to developers being fired. The leaks included details about the story’s length, gameplay mechanics, and some other random info like the inclusion of male strippers. Well, according to Mikhail Ivanov, deputy chairman of the World Russian People’s Council, this addition could result in GTA 6 being barred. Russia warns Rockstar to remove male strip clubs from GTA 6 In an interview, Ivanov took issue with the popularity of Grand Theft Auto and dubbed the series a “dangerous tool of influence.” “The creators of GTA VI deliberately go to include destructive and vulgar content in their product, completely unacceptable to the moral health of society,” he blasted. “This includes the planned inclusion of scenes of male striptease in the game, which is a direct and cynical violation of basic moral norms and traditional spiritual values.” He went on to seemingly refer to the leaks and Rockstar’s confirmation of the content, stating: “The admission of such content is tantamount to the growth of the younger generation.” Ivanov further called on developers “to release special, cleaned of immoral content versions for our market.” This wouldn’t be the first time that different countries have received altered versions of games. For example, in 2023, Overwatch 2’s Pride event was banned in several Middle Eastern countries. Russian politicians haven’t shied away from criticizing games and movies for having what they consider to be a negative impact on their children, pinpointing Shrek and Monsters Inc during a May 2025 roundtable discussion. It’s not clear yet if Rockstar will offer a toned-down version of GTA VI, depending on the market, but with the game under a year away, expect to learn more in the weeks and months ahead.
