Rockstar North, GTA 6 Developer, Hit by Office Explosion: Accidental Cause

In Edinburgh, Scotland Monday morning, fire crews were sent to the main building of Rockstar North, a developer working on GTA 6, after an explosion at the office. Despite initial fears, this is reportedly an accident, with the explosion allegedly happening in the boiler room. There are no reports of injuries at this time. Here’s what Scotland’s The Herald said about the incident: “Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and specialist resources to the scene, where firefighters worked to secure structural damage at a commercial building. There were no reported casualties and crews left the scene at 9.21am.” There is no word about the capacity of the office going forward at this point, obviously a key development spot given that it’s the main building. But the explosion, despite being an explosion, appears to be contained. It is very fortunate no one was injured. It likely helped that it occurred at 5 AM when few if any workers would be there. Rockstar North is a key piece of the puzzle in terms of getting GTA 6 out the door this fall after two delays. The game will now release November 19, 2026, around a year after the originally announced window in the fall of 2025. It was then delayed to May 26, 2026, before being delayed again to this coming fall. Despite a question being asked, there is zero indication this would affect GTA 6 development at this time, but obviously this happened hours ago and Rockstar is focused on the safety of its developers. So, a wild headline to wake up to, but fortunately, the situation seems to be contained.
