Gillette Weather Alert: Snowfall and 50 MPH Winds Expected

GILLETTE, Wyo. — Snowfall is coming to Gillette this morning before an extremely gusty and very cool afternoon. The Gillette area will likely see less than a half-inch of snowfall after showers this morning, which, according to the National Weather Service station in Rapid City, will most likely cease by 11 a.m. The day will remain cloudy, however, and temps will drop quickly to around 22 degrees in the late afternoon. Coupled with 24-33 mph winds that could occasionally gust up to 50 mph, Gillette today could feel as cool as 7 degrees. Clouds will remain overnight. With 14-18 mph winds, the evening’s low of 10 degrees could feel closer to -1 degrees. Wind gusts of up to 25 mph are possible. Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, will see the sun return and temps warm back up. The high for Monday should be around 33 degrees, which is right above freezing. Strong winds will continue, however, with regular gusts of 11-17 mph and occasionally up to 25 mph expected Monday. That could make the day feel closer to -2 degrees. Monday night will see clouds return somewhat. The evening’s low will drop to around 18 degrees, with windchill values as low as 10. Temps will remain low all week, though Gillette residents can look forward to a 43-degree day on Thursday. Incessant winds will also continue to blow through the area all week.
