All-Ireland Winner Gavin Curran Welcomes Newborn Son in Australia

Daingean Uí Chúis' All-Ireland-winning goalkeeper Gavin Curran capped an incredible few days by returning to Australia to meet his newborn son Óigí. Curran has been a central part of the west Kerry’s journey this season that has seen a first county title in 77 years, a gripping Munster final that was decided in the last play of the game against St Finbarr's, plus All-Ireland semi and finals that went their way after extra-time. Based in Australia, the shotstopper has clocked up the airmiles to be part of the club’s unforgettable campaign. Curran quickly returned Down Under after the semi-final win over Ballyboden with partner Claire due to give birth to their first child. It was unclear if he would be between the sticks for the showpiece in Croke Park, but manager Pádraig Corcoran revealed after the match that he only touched down in Ireland the Thursday before the final. Curran made a number of crucial interventions against St Brigid's, and it turned out to be an especially significant day as Óigí was born on the morning of the match. While victory sparked massive celebrations, Curran was on an early flight back to Australia the following morning, arriving home to meet his son.
