Ford has unveiled the Mustang Dark Horse SC, a supercharged V8 track-focused model. It replaces the Shelby GT500, featuring enhanced aerodynamics and GT3-derived handling parts. An optional performance pack offers carbon fiber wheels and Brembo brakes. The SC aims to attract a younger demographic with customizable options. Pricing is expected to be significant, potentially exceeding $200,000 in some markets.
Following an appearance in a promotion video with Max Verstappen at the wheel, Ford has officially taken the covers off the Mustang Dark Horse SC.
Essentially replacing the Shelby GT500 in Ford’s in-house line-up, the Dark Horse SC gets the same supercharged 5.2-litre V8 power plant.
As well as replacing the GT500, the SC fills the gap between the standard Dark Horse and the hardcore GTD.
Ford is yet to release power and torque figures for the SC, but it’s understood to eclipse the 372kW offered in the Dark Horse.
This engine is paired exclusively with a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, sending power to the rear wheels.
On the outside, the SC’s bodywork hints at its improved performance. It gets a new front bumper, side skirts, a vented bonnet, a new rear bumper, and a large rear wing.
Beneath this new aesthetic, the SC also gets a bunch of GT3-derived handling parts that reportedly makes this Mustang one of the best handling of its kind.
An optional performance pack is available that adds to this handling package with carbon fibre wheels, carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 R tyres.
On the inside, the SC looks quite refined with Recaro seats and a large curved display stretching across the dash.
While the Mustang has historically been a favourite with older buyers, Ford is targeting a younger demographic with the Dark Horse SC.
A lot of this comes through the customisation options available. These include a bunch of eye-catching colours, accessories, and a set of Teal brake calipers.
Ford is yet to release any pricing figures for this model globally, but it’s not going to be cheap.
In New Zealand, the standard Mustang Dark Horse started at $116,990, when it launched, so if the SC does make it to our shores, don’t expect to see any change from $200,000.
