Errigal to Everest Base Camp: John Wilkie's Inspiring Journey for Cancer Care West

A Letterkenny man is undertaking the challenge of Errigal to Everest Base Camp in aid of Cancer Care West Support Centre Donegal. In May, John Wilkie will travel from Donegal’s highest peak to the China-Nepal border to the base of Everest. Elevated at 29,032ft above sea level, Everest is the highest peak on Earth. To reach the base camp, it is a 15-20 day trek through the Himalayan Mountains surrounded by panoramic views of glacial valleys and forests. Everest Base Camp has two locations - the South Base Camp, elevated at 17,598ft and the North Base Camp at 16,900ft. Having climbed Errigal 75 times already, John is using it as his training ground. In 2023, John climbed Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, in aid of Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind and raised over €11,000.
