Toronto Police Seek Suspect in East York Hate-Motivated Assault

Toronto police say a woman wanted in connection with a hate-motivated assault allegedly made anti-immigrant comments before pouring water over a person’s head in East York. The incident occurred on July 19, 2025 at around 4:40 p.m. in the area of Thorncliffe Park Drive and Overlea Boulevard. The suspect was at a bus stop when they overheard the victim speaking to another victim in a language other than English, police said. “The suspect made anti-Egyptian and anti-immigration utterances before approaching the victim and assaulting them by pouring water on their head,” police said in a news release issued Monday. The suspect, according to police, got off the bus and was last seen walking east on Overlea Boulevard. The woman, police said, is described as between 30 and 40 years old, and is between five feet, six inches and five feet, eight inches tall. She has a heavy build, police said, and was wearing a white shirt, black tights, black and white Converse shoes, a black and white head covering, and was carrying a green purse. Police have now released an image of the suspect in the investigation, which they say is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offence.
