Heartbreaking tributes are being paid to homeless woman Natasha Smith, who was found dead in a tent in Dublin city centre earlier this week. Heartbreaking tributes are being paid to a homeless woman who was found dead in a tent in Dublin city centre on Friday afternoon. The body of Natasha Smith, who was aged in her 40s, was discovered on Pearse Street at around 12.30pm. She was taken to St James' Hospital, where she was sadly pronounced dead. It's understood foul play is not suspected in the death. A fundraiser has been launched to help pay for the mum-of-two's funeral. Jade Cousins, who set up the GoFundMe page, wrote: "I'm setting up a fundraiser for Natasha smith she passed away suddenly leaving the family lost, every little help will go a long way helping her mam get everything paid for and sorted out thanks." At the time of writing, the fundraiser has raised over €4,000 of its €7,000 goal. Dublin Homeless Awareness said they were 'devastated', writing on Facebook: "We have just received news of the death of one of our well known service users. Our team engaged with this woman every night of the week and she brought nothing but smiles to the teams faces, we are absolutely devastated. "Another life lost to our streets and homelessness. Our thoughts are with this woman's family and friends. Rest in peace." Heartbroken followers also offered their condolences. One woman said: "Rip. God bless the family at this hard time. When the hell is this homeless crisis being sorted? It's heartbreaking." Another added: "Rest in peace Tasha. You're going to be missed so much. Shocked I am to hear about your passing. May you get the best bed in heaven, look over your two boys and family through this hard time. Rest easy friend." Another homeless charity, A Lending Hand, also paid tribute to Natasha while criticising the government for not doing more to end the housing crisis. They wrote: "Natasha died trying to keep herself safe when the state should be providing emergency accommodation that is fit and safe for humans and not forcing women to take their chances in freezing conditions in a tent." They added: "We hope your soul is free from all the pain you have endured. Rest in peace our lovely Natasha." A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardai and emergency services responded to a medical incident which occurred at Pearse Street, Dublin 2, on 16 January 2026 at approximately 12.30pm. "A woman, aged in her 40s, was taken to St James' Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The local Coroner has been informed."
