Dangerous Driving Trial Adjourned Following Tragic Child Death

The case of a 45-year-old father accused of dangerous driving causing the death of his six-year-old daughter in the midlands in 2024 has been further adjourned. Doctor Babak Meshkat of An Cimín Mór, Cappagh Road, Galway, was sent forward for trial after he was charged last year. In June last year lawyers told the court that they were to engage an independent expert to analyse the car's crash data before Mr Meshkat enters a plea. The State had already provided a 120-page report from the garda inspection to Mr Meshkat's legal team. Today Mullingar Circuit Court heard how the forensic engineer's report will be ready in three weeks' time. Judge Keenan Johnson adjourned the case until 12 February. Dr Meshkat's six-year-old daughter, Hana Meshkat, was severely injured in a crash on the eastbound lane of the motorway between Junction 4, Tyrellspass, and Junction 3, Rochfortbridge, on 8 February 2024. The child died at Children's Health Ireland (CHI) hospital at Temple Street in Dublin nine days later.
